The
new Romford Hospital is currently the largest in the history
of PFI hospital projects. Designed by BDP and constructed by
Bovis Lend Lease. It could be said that its crowning glory is
the bold design statement made by the sweeping curves of the
rotundas that sit atop the building visible from all sides,
and all clad with APL Louvre Systems.
These
dramatic grey curves house all the plant rooms and lift housings
for the whole hospital and are a combination of 'live' louvres
and louvre profiles which, when used in conjunction with each
other, provide seamless sweeping curves to compliment the building
design.
The
AP70 louvre systems were produced by Architectural Profiles
in the UK, fabricated in aluminium and coated in a special grey
PVF2 coating.
The
APL louvre profiles system is one of a comprehensive range of
roofing and cladding products and systems manufactured by Architectural
Profiles Limited including the ever popular AP 50 Half Round
profile, a range of trapezoidal profiles, rainscreen and flat
panel systems, structural roof decking, structural Kassetts
and standing seam roofing systems.
The
APL patented Tritherm system, which is fundamental to this installation,
is also key to the integral strength of APL's range of Cantilever
assemblies such as 'slim verge overhangs' which offer exceptional
design opportunities and provide the best architectural and
structural solutions to the air sealing demands of the Building
Regulations.
